Appraisal is a key part of performance management. It offers a regular opportunity to provide people with constructive feedback about their performance and to set objectives both for achieving their task and for further developing their capability. The significant increase in home working due to COVID 19 and a change in work practices, has made it even more important to maintain contact and give people feedback. A key factor is to have more frequent reviews, perhaps monthly and to include additional skills for remote working .

Added to the need to give recognition, feedback and identify development needs, stress adds an extra factor.
