Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign that celebrates and recognises the vital contribution of the UK’s unpaid carers – supporting family members and friends who are older, have a disability, mental or physical illness or need extra help as they grow older. This year, we are coming together to make caring visible and valued.
This is the very first time all of us at Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCoL) are celebrating carers week which our Marketing Co-ordinator, Jey Sharman has organised, and who is a carer herself. In March 2021 we introduced a new carers page on our staff intranet and always looking to grow, engage and develop our colleague networks on a variety of topics.
Who is a carer?
“A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition or who needs extra help as they grow older. It isn’t someone who volunteers or is employed to provide support”

Carers Week at SATCoL
We have a number of activities, announcements and information being shared and organised for SATCoL employees and the carers we have in the company.
We know that it’s important to have an understanding, to provide support and to make carers feel valued and visible.
Jey Sharman, Marketing Co-ordinator, said:
“Being a carer can be extremely challenging while also juggling and developing a career, I am so thankful for the support SATCoL have given and that I have had the opportunity to organise Carers Week. I have so much planned for our colleagues! Including a staff intranet take over – employees sharing their carer journey’s, updating our carers page with more information, a zoom discussion with Northamptonshire Carers, delivering wellbeing packages to our carers across the company and so much more”.
