For the first time, the UK Timber Packaging and Pallet Confederation publicly raised concerns that the UK is not ready for new regulations due to be enforced on 1st January 2021 as required by the EU post-Brexit and that Covid-19 has scuppered the UK pallet manufacturers plan to be ready in time. UK exporters are frantically looking for solutions and are recognising that paper pallets offer a practical and sustainable equivalent.
PALLITE®, the UK’s largest paper pallet manufacturer, has stepped in to plug the gap between supply and demand for pallets that meet ISPM15 regulations – a rule that requires wooden pallets to be heat-treated to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.
Iain Hulmes, CEO of PALLITE®, explains: “Our pallets are made from recycled paper so are exempt from the ISPM15 regulations. Heat-treated pallets are more expensive than standard wooden pallets and lack of kiln capacity can only increase this premium. Not only that, using a paper pallet reduces your CO2 footprint so it’s a no brainer.”
PALLITE®’s manufacturing site in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, can produce a paper pallet every 10 seconds through their automated production line and are actively recruiting a new Production Planner to oversee the rise in demand.
If your business exports to the EU, switching to PALLITE® pallets could prevent disruption to your supply chain. Visit https://www.pallite.co.uk for more information.
