NMPAT Summer Festival of Music

Posted: 29/06/21 by Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust

Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th July 2021

Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust will be hosting its Summer Festival of Music, enabling NMPAT County Groups to rehearse and perform together for the first time, and bringing this challenging and current academic year to a close.

Over the weekend of Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th July, NMPAT are inviting audiences of friends, family and supporters to join individual County Groups at Derngate, Northampton, celebrating young musicians making live music, for the first time since March 2020.

Recent relaxation of Government guidance now allows NMPAT County Groups to meet face to face, whilst continuing to remain socially distanced at all times.

The Derngate auditorium, used in full flat floor format, provides a vast area in which full Orchestras, Choirs, Wind, Brass and Jazz Bands, guitar ensembles and more are able to rehearse and perform together.

Like no other concert NMPAT has staged before, each NMPAT County Group will rehearse, before recording their performance with a live audience of friends and family.  For some, this is the first and only time the students will come together as a whole group.

There will be 20 individual NMPAT County Group events, across the three days, and tickets can be booked at https://tickets.royalandderngate.co.uk/overview/77499

NMPAT have continued to deliver instrumental and vocal lessons, and ensemble music making opportunities, providing online solutions throughout the pandemic. Many of NMPAT’s County Group rehearsals have been taking place either online, or in small socially distanced groups, for much of year.  Disappointingly, almost every concert and
event NMPAT has had planned has had to be cancelled or postponed. NMPAT are thrilled to have this opportunity for all County Group members to play together - especially with
an audience of family, friends and supporters to join us.

Some of the Saturday morning session will feature a live link to NMPAT’s Virtual Centre, which was launched and run this year, in place of face-to-face Centres across the county. Young people will perform “With a Little Help from my Friends” accompanied by the NMPAT County Training Orchestra.  All at NMPAT are looking forward to this exciting collaboration, as preparations to re-launch face to face Centres in September are well underway.
