New Northampton cheese is on the menu at food group meeting

Members of ‘Made In Northamptonshire’ (MIN) county food group were treated to Northampton’s first new home grown cheese to be produced in years.

The network established by The Mallows Company and aided by Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP) to support local producers, retailers, pubs and restaurants, were sampled the Cobblers Nibble at a recent meeting held at the home of award-winning Farrington Oils in Hargrave.

The cheese is produced by husband and wife team Gary and Rachael Bradley of Hamm Tun Fine Foods and saw them giving a brief presentation to the group on the background to the company and their remarkable cheese-making story.

Rachel Mallows, of The Mallows Company, said the meeting was a perfect example of the value of MIN.

She said: “We have so many great products and drinks here in Northamptonshire which deserve to trumpeted and if we can help to forge the links that mean that the county’s food lovers can buy them, as we have today, then it’s served its purpose.”

“We’re also very grateful to Duncan and the team at Farrington Oils, not only for having generously hosted the meeting but also for sponsoring the group alongside Explore Communications and Santander Corporate & Commercial, and therefore enabling such successes to happen,” she added.

Cobblers Nibble, which was named following a facebook competition, is now on sale at Beckworth Emporium, St Giles Cheese in Northampton, The Larder at Castle Ashby and The Deli Barn at the Heart of the Shires Shopping Village at Weedon.

MIN is a networking group aimed at bringing like-minded businesses from the county’s food and drink sector together to help promote quality on the doorstep and to forge new working partnerships. It is aimed at:

  • producers wishing to find new markets and to work collaboratively
  • retail outlets wanting to sell the ‘best of Northamptonshire’
  • chefs and eateries looking to source good local produce
  • county food and drink businesses which support local business
  • people who love the ‘buy local’ philosophy

The group meets quarterly (hosted by a MIN member), membership is FREE and it is open to anyone from the food and drink sector who would like to join. It also has a logo - a ‘kite mark’ indicating local provenance and excellence – which can be used by county food and drink businesses on their produce, products and promotional material as well as by venues which sell Northamptonshire items or food outlets which serve Northamptonshire produce on their menus.
