A year of fund-raising to celebrate the centenary of a family business has reaped just under £10, 000 for two charities close to the heart of the management team.
Northampton based Jones Wholesale marked 100 years of trading with a number of events, including a hundred-mile cycle ride in the Summer, and rounding it off with a successful charity golf day at Whittlebury Hall.
“We’re absolutely delighted at how supportive people have been, be it in sponsorship, or by taking part in our golf event, and we are donating the money raised to both the Anthony Nolan charity and Cynthia Spencer based in Northampton,” said Tom Allitt who runs the family business with his elder brother, Simon.
“A few years ago, our dad, who ran the business before we did, was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma and forced to retire - he had a stem cell transplant that saved his life, and it was the Anthony Nolan charity who provided that stem cell; so raising money for that charity is our way of saying thank you!
“But we’re very proud of our Northampton roots, and Cynthia Spencer is a fantastic local charity that our customers voted as our local charity of the year – and we are thrilled that we’ve been able to hand over a donation to two fantastic causes close to all our hearts.”
Jones Wholesale, whose headquarters is in Heathfield Way, Northampton, was founded by Tom and Simon’s great grandfather, Percy Jones, in 1919. Said Tom: “We’re proud to have served the town for a hundred years, and we’ve been overwhelmed by all the good wishes that have come our way from so many people during the course of this year.”
