John O’Groats to Land’s End Challenge Raises over £10,000 for Cynthia Spencer Hospice

Cynthia Spencer Hospice was thrilled to be presented with a cheque from Ben Hymus and Jacob Wadsworth from M.V. Kelly Limited for £10,628 following the team’s amazing John O’Groats to Land’s End challenge last year which supported 6 charities including the hospice.

Jacob said: “Each of the charities has a particular personal link with someone from M.V. Kelly Ltd which makes us extremely proud to be able to help them with their work. My mum was cared for at Cynthia Spencer at the beginning of 2018 and personally; with the support of the company, we wanted to say thank you for the work you guys do. During the time we spent as a family, at the hospice you made an impossible situation more bearable, offering a caring and peaceful environment to spend valuable time with loved ones.”

The 1,013 mile challenge covering the length of Britain was completed in nine stages, some walked, some cycled and was a major logistical effort organised completely by the M.V. Kelly team. Team members met during the summer to train for the challenge and completed local routes (stopping at pubs along the way!)

Jacob continued: “It was a great team bonding experience, bringing colleagues together from our five regional offices. A few years ago the company also completed the 3 peaks challenge. We would like to thank everyone who took part and especially the companies and individuals who sponsored and made donations which helped us raise over £70,000 in total for the 6 charities. In addition to our main challenge we also held a number of fundraising events including BBQs, dress down days, pub quizzes and a football tournament.”

Nina Gandy, corporate partnerships fundraiser at Cynthia Spencer Hospice said: “The M.V. Kelly team have achieved something absolutely amazing by coming together from all parts of the region and working towards a team challenge of this magnitude. As well as raising an absolutely incredible amount, they have clearly really enjoyed training and working together and have gained valuable team-building time out of their fundraising activities throughout 2019.
