An insurance broker from Rothwell is celebrating after winning two awards at the National SME Business Awards at Wembley Stadium on Friday night.
Robyn Allen of Robyn Allen Solutions Ltd, a company that specialises in personal protection insurance, took home two silver awards – Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Mentor of the Year.
Robyn was automatically put through for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category after winning a Young Business Person of the Year award at a regional level at the Northamptonshire SME Business Awards last October.
The Diana Award - Mentor of the Year was a new category for this year, designed to recognise business mentors who are a positive role model and dedicated when it comes to sharing their skills and expertise.
Robyn, despite only being in business herself for the last three years, is a non executive director and trustee with several organisations, volunteers at her local college to deliver money skills workshops, and mentors new start-up businesses in her own time. She is also a trained GRIT (Growing Resilience In Teens) mentor to teenagers, working with them as part of a program designed to help reduce anxiety and self-destructive behaviours by building resilience. Throughout 2019 Robyn has also acted as a mentor to her administrator Jasmine, who also has her own fitness business, helping her to grow the business and put on events.
Robyn said: “As a business owner I know I work hard - as we all do – but to have it recognised at a national level is just amazing! It is such an honour to receive both awards, but I’m especially proud of the Mentor of the Year title, sponsored by the Diana Award, as it shows my continued commitment to supporting others.
“Looking back over 2019, my two biggest highlights relate to voluntary activities - becoming a Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce Board Director and Home-Start Trustee and seeing my employee and mentee Jasmin get a Runner Up award for Best New Business at a local business awards ceremony.”
Looking ahead to 2020, Robyn plans to launch a second business in June that is focused on supporting people with their health, fitness and mental strength and continue to ‘pay it forward’ by mentoring and supporting more people in her local community.
