Wicksteed Park will be celebrating its 90th birthday in 2011 and plans are underway for a series of events to mark the occasion.
Preliminary meetings have taken place to discuss various ways of celebrating the anniversary. Ideas include different decades to be celebrated each month including a regatta to emulate the original opening, a 30s and 40s WWII event, a 50s and 60s The Way We Were Festival, and much more.
Management at Wicksteed Park are now looking for volunteers and groups who would like to be involved in organising these events, and to perhaps showcase their talents at them.
John Roberts, Managing Director at Wicksteed Park, says: “This is such a great opportunity to have a community project where everyone can get involved. The vast majority of people who have always lived in Kettering will have spent all of their lives so far with Wicksteed Park on their doorstep. The Park means a lot to local residents so why not have a big celebration where everyone can get involved. We are keen to hear from groups who would like to be involved – for example perhaps a big band for the 30s and 40s weekend or a performing arts group who could create more nostalgia.”
If you would like to be part of the planning committee then please email email@example.com or write to John Roberts, Wicksteed Park, Barton Road, Kettering, Northants, NN15 6NJ with details of how you could be involved. The next committee meeting will take place soon so time is of the essence!
