Avon Cosmetics has awarded £5,000 to a local charity that provides support and guidance to families who have lost a child. Nominated by Avon associates in the Northampton office through a scheme called Associates Choice, this money will make a real difference to many families in the future.
Children Are Butterflies is a non-profit organisation and every single penny that is donated goes straight into supporting those families who have lost a child. The charity provides an online forum where parents can talk to others who understand. Avon’s donation will be used to help the charity continue to support families both locally and nationally.
Voting for Children Are Butterflies was driven by Avon Northampton associate Kellie Plant who championed the charity to receive the funding.
Kellie Plant, UK Field Communications, says: “I first heard about this charity through my mum who works with Ann, the founder and trustee of Children Are Butterflies. When she told me about the incredible support they provide bereaved families, I wanted to do something to raise awareness and support for this amazing charity.
“Losing a child is every parent’s worst fear, and having had close family and friends experience this horror for themselves this charity really resonated with me. Not only do they provide financial support but also emotional support by connecting families who have suffered similar losses.”
Charity Founder, Ann Hollowell, says: “I am absolutely thrilled we have been chosen to receive such a substantial sum of money. Every penny raised or donated will help families during such a difficult time in their lives.
“Not only do we support families and conduct their child’s funeral service, we also care for families by providing a keepsake memory box for them and hold a service every year where we dedicate and release a butterfly in memory of each child.
“Our support extends nationally by providing families with an online application form for financial assistance. I cannot thank Avon, Kellie and all those who voted for ‘Children Are Butterflies’ enough. Avon’s contribution will support many families in the future and for this I am truly grateful.”
Avon is committed to improving lives and making a real difference both nationally and in the local community. In the UK over £19 million has been donated to breast cancer charities through the Avon breast cancer crusade and £2 million to domestic violence charities through its Speak Out programme.
