Central and East Northamptonshire CAB is running a series of “Scams Awareness” events - aimed at helping professionals who work with vulnerable consumers to become better aware of the dangers their clients and service users face.
It follows a rise in scams not just aimed at older people but across a cross-section of the public.
The awareness event on Thursday 14 November, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, coincides with the launch of the Northamptonshire Consumer Action Network, and is being run in partnership with Northamptonshire Trading Standards.
Evidence from across the Citizens Advice network and Trading Standards departments across the country points to an increase in scams activity such as:
- Training and job ploys: paying for a phantom training course with the false promise of a job
- Dangerous debt help: offers of loans or help to clear debts which carries an upfront fee
- Lottery scams
- Deceptive prize draw or sweepstake
- Get-rich-quick schemes
- Investment scam
