Business Data Group is excited to be involved with supporting Grit – formerly known as Youth at Risk – for another year delivering pupil coaching programmes in Daventry and Northampton. The Grit program is working in partnership with local schools, Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (DSLV) and the Northampton Academy.
Richard Osborne who is the Managing Director of Business Data Group and a Non-Executive Director of Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, explains why he is excited to be working with Grit for another year.
“The program supports the young people in the secondary end of the school, and the unique development and coaching programme aims to light the spark of aspiration, helping pupils to achieve their full potential at school and beyond into their working lives.”
“It was like a light bulb switch went in my head and suddenly changed the way I looked at everything”. Young person from a Grit programme
Crucial to the success of the programme is the role that local adults will play in supporting young people. Adults from the community will be trained to coach young people for six months, supporting pupils as they work towards goals and help them stay on track as they make positive changes.
“I became involved with Grit to support young people in the county, but the training I received myself has also helped me in my own life and in coaching my staff within my business.” explains Richard as he reflects on being involved with the Grit program. “I’d encourage anyone to consider becoming a coach for a young person.”
Recruitment has now begun for the local volunteers needed to coach and support young people throughout the programme. No previous experience is needed, just a passion for making a difference with young people in your community and time available to coach. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the lives of local young people, give back to the community and be part of the solution.
All volunteers will be trained in Grit’s high-impact, life coaching methodology which many continue to make use of way beyond their involvement in the programme.
