Local people wanted to maintain standards

Posted: 28/04/17 by Northampton Borough Council

Northampton Borough Council is looking to recruit new members to the Standards Committee, which helps to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by elected and co-opted Councillors.

The Standards Committee members work with the Council’s Monitoring Officer to maintain the Council’s ethical framework and to provide objective and impartial views on complaints about Councillor behaviour. Two Parish Councillors and two Independent Members are needed to join the Standards Committee for the next two years, until May 2019.

Prospective applicants should have the ability to be objective and impartial, have good analytical and communication skills, and a demonstrable interest in local issues. Applicants should have availability to attend evening Committee meetings at the Guildhall, Northampton on a quarterly basis and to attend ad hoc meetings to deal with case work.

The Independent Members should not have any connection to a political party, Councillors, Parish Councillors within the Borough or Council staff.

The position is unsalaried although Committee members will be entitled to claim reasonable expenses for travel and subsistence when they attend meetings.
