Northampton veteran and healthcare advocate, Pat Haslam was announced as the winner of the 2017 Inspirational Woman Award at a ceremony on Saturday 4 March.
John Griff, BBC Radio Northampton presenter and a member of the Inspirational Woman award judging panel, presented Pat with the award at the well-attended International Women’s Day event at the Guildhall on Saturday.
Pat was chosen out of 47 amazing women who had been nominated for the award, for her commitment to improving the health and pastoral care of veterans in the county by ensuring they are directed to the right care or voluntary service.
In her nomination, Pat was described as being a ‘trailblazer’ and ‘truly inspirational’. Reference was also made to the difference that her determination has made, sentiments that the judging panel noted when they voted to make Pat the winner of this year’s award.
Councillor Anna King, Northampton Borough Council’s Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “Deciding a winner from the 47 nominations that we received this year, was an extremely difficult task.
“All of the five award finalists deserve appreciation for the hard work and commitment that they show in their communities. However, Pat’s strength of character and leadership really shined through. We felt her achievements needed to be recognised and presenting Pat with the award in front of crowds at the International Women’s Day event, provided the perfect opportunity to do so.”
