Are your managers guilty of this?

Posted: 03/03/17 by

Leading edge local training company The Development Company carried out a survey in 2016 to find out ‘What gets in the way of staff doing their jobs effectively?’.

The results are shocking:

• 72% said poor managers

• 17% said skills shortages, and

• 11% said staff feeling de-motivated at work.

Kay Buckby, Training Consultant, and Director of The Development Company, carried out face to face interviews with over 200 people.

She said “It was surprising the level of emotion the respondents had. They told me stories with such detail, that it took me weeks to arrange the data into something meaningful.”

“It is clear that individuals are still being promoted to the role of manager and leader without being provided with the correct training to do the job. We are setting people up to fail, as managing others is a skill.”

“Big changes can happen with regular training sessions, complimented with coaching and mentoring. We provide short burst sessions of 2-3 hours to management teams, and it keeps skills sharp, challenges them to do new things, and encourages lifetime learning. Considering the amount of waking time we spend at work, Managers should be enabling their staff to work effectively.”
