Becoming a school governor is an excellent way to get involved in the community and make sure local children receive the highest standard of education. You’ll meet new people, develop your skills and ultimately influence the education of thousands of children. The governor’s role is to work on a committee and act as a ‘critical friend’ to the head teacher whilst helping with overall management. Training is available to all school governors.
Volunteers do not have to be parents nor do they need experience of the education system. In fact, anyone aged 18 or over, from any background, who can commit to an average of 2-4 evening meetings per term can add tremendous value to a school’s governing body.
