Job swap for apprentices

Posted: 11/02/10 by Starting Off (Northampton) Ltd

Local training provider, Starting Off, teamed up with Northampton Town FC to organise an Apprentice job swap as part of National Apprenticeship week.

Carl Leeson from Cosworth, and Chris Martin who is about to start work at Intersoccer, spent the morning experiencing what it is like to be an Apprentice Footballer. They cleaned boots, joined in with some training and helped organise the pitch for the first team players.

Dale Willis, Managing Director of Starting Off was delighted with the swap. He said: “The two local office apprentices had a great time training at Sixfields and got to see the less glamourous side of being a footballer.”

In the afternoon they swapped over and Northampton Town FC Apprentice Footballers, Liam Ruddick and Tom McGowan were given a tour of Cosworth by Carl Leeson to get an insight other types of careers at this major local employer.

Sean Parrish, youth team coach at Northampton Town FC was pleased with the day. He said: “Starting Off have been youth team sponsors for the last five years. Having a sponsor who can organise these sorts of experiences really helps us to develop the lads’ understanding of the world outside of football.”
