UB40 Tribute is coming to Wicksteed Park

One of the UK’s premier reggae bands, Johnny 2 Bad, will be performing their UB40 tribute at Wicksteed Park on Friday 17 September.

Johnny 2 Bad boast a line up that wouldn’t be out of place on any stage in the world as its core musicians Mikey Nanton (keys), James Renford (sax), David Skins (drums) and The Boot (bass) have well over 25 years of recording and worldwide touring at the very highest level with major recording artist such as Apache Indian, Musical Youth, Sting, Beres Hammond, Edwin Starr, Alexander O’Neale and for most of that period as part of the exciting Reggae Revolution backing band behind Pato Banton that resulted in a GRAMMY nomination for Best Live Reggae Band in 2001.

The glamour side of the band is fronted by the widely acclaimed brass section who in addition to James Renford’s extensive credits include Andy Harris (trumpet) and Stuart Haugh (trombone) who came fresh to the band from the English Philharmonic Orchestra and a Bombay Brass band.

And finally on lead vocals and lead guitar, Johnny 2 Bad have the emerging raw talent of Wayne Lawrence, who has gained a reputation as one of the best vocalists in the country today. His credits include song writing with the legendary Nicky Chinn of Chinn Chapman fame (the biggest selling UK songwriters after Lennon/McCartney, who wrote hits for Sweet, Mudd, Suzi Quatro, Go West and hundreds more). Wayne was also the first reserve for the BBC series Fame Academy (Lemar) out of 250,000 hopefuls.

After fronting the Birmingham band Farside (Best Unsigned Band in the UK 2005) he was head hunted to join Johnny 2 Bad to enhance the reputation of the band who The Stage Newspaper described as “the best live band we have ever seen”.

Tickets for this event are £10 each in advance and can be purchased online at www.wicksteedpark.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01536 512475. Tickets will also be available to purchase on the night for £12 each (subject to availability).
