Sixfields covers in place ahead of Macclesfield Town game

Northampton Town Football Club is taking every precaution against the freezing temperatures to ensure that Saturday's game against Macclesfield Town at Sixfields will go ahead as planned.

The pitch has been covered since Monday, and as of Thursday afternoon, was in a good condition as Groundsman Paul Knowles explained.

"We covered the pitch with one layer of covers on Monday and it has kept the last two frosts out," he said. "In view of the predicted temperatures, we have hired in extra covers and have put a second layer of covers across the pitch at the south end of the ground.

"We have even treble covered the goalmouth at the south end with a third layer of covers, and every possible effort is made to allow the game to go ahead.

"The pitch is perfectly playable as of Thursday afternoon and we will be keeping the covers down as long as possible on Saturday to keep the pitch protected for the maximum time."
