Refreshing Solution to Spending Cuts

Delivering more with less is a mantra becoming all too familiar in the public and private sectors alike and is the theme of a recent series of reports by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

According to one of the reports: "Spending cuts can drive efficiency but it is only a combination of good leadership, careful change management and excellent line management that can ensure efficiency goes hand in hand with greater effectiveness."

Senior managers need little convincing that investing in leadership and management skills and focusing on employee engagement brings real performance improvements but how can organisations do this without putting themselves at further financial risk? David Scott, director of Rambutan, a training and consultancy firm based in Market Harborough agrees: “While now more than ever there is a real need to engage staff and improve management skills, organisations are understandably reluctant to risk money on training and staff development.”

One refreshing approach to this problem that the team at Rambutan have come up with is to take all the risk away from the clients they work with. They will not charge for any work that the client is not 100% satisfied with or that doesn’t achieve performance targets set at the start of a project, be they increasing sales, profits, customer or employee satisfaction. A radical solution maybe, but something that is currently welcomed by organisations looking for a safe return on investment.

“Our new clients really like this approach; it gives them comfort when working with us for the first time, after which they know for certain that we will help them achieve their results,” added David.

As the spending cuts bite it is refreshing to know that one company at least is willing to put its money where its mouth is to help the clients they work with.
