Polish club provides business opportunity
A former Polish Club, which has just been launched onto the open market, could be used for a wide range of commercial purposes, says national Property Consultants Carter Jonas.
The Polish Ex-Servicemen’s Club which is situated in the heart of Wellingborough in Winstanley Road, provides just under 4,000sq ft of space over three floors, and could be suitable for a number of uses including club, health centre, crèche, college or educational centre or even as a place of worship.
Commercial Partner for Carter Jonas Northampton office, Andrew Cowling, explains: “It is not very often that a property as substantial and as versatile as the Polish Club becomes available freehold. The property itself stands in 0.11 acres, has an onsite car park and is in good order for its age.
“Inside, much of the floor area is made up of halls. One of the larger halls benefits from a stage and bar area, there is also a kitchen, offices and ancillary accommodation. We believe that subject to planning permission and given the other residential schemes in the local vicinity, it could also be converted to residential use.”
The Victorian red brick and black slate property was originally built as a school, however in 1968 it was bought by the Polish Ex-Combatants Association to become the new home for the Polish Ex-Servicemen’s Club. Over the years, it has been used by a variety of Polish groups and organisations for dances, traditional Polish functions as well as being used as the meeting place for Scouts and Guides. At the time it was originally purchased, the Association was made up of 60 members, however, sadly today the numbers have dwindled to just 14.
Chairman of the Club, Anna Randall, commented: “Over the years the property has served the Association very well indeed, but by the very nature of the club and its statute, numbers have reduced considerably, which has resulted in the meetings either taking place at the nearby Victoria Centre or at my house!”
The property, which is available freehold with vacant possession, has an asking price of £250,000.
