Northampton’s relaunched Creative Café gets off to a flying start!
The relaunch of a county business network, promoting good practice and sharing skills among those in the creative sector, has got off to a flying start, with the next gathering later this month eagerly anticipated.
The Creative Café returned by popular demand to Northampton's Portfolio Innovation Centre in September, with guests having the chance to learn about effective freelancing from a selection of freelancers who shared their stories and offered advice and top tips on what made them successful. The informal event, accompanied by beer and pizza, was attended by a variety of creative professionals including photographers, designers, sculptors and computer programmers.
Among them was Shena Cooper, Creator and Director of the Secret Seed Society, which promotes healthy living for children through activity books. Said Shena: “We 'creatives' have such different issues to contend with from those in more mainstream jobs and so this event was fantastic to enable us to share our ideas and exchange experiences. It was just great and very reassuring to know that others are facing the same difficulties - and joys - that I am!"
Centre Manager Wendy Nikolaidis was delighted with the relaunch: "It was fabulous to watch our speakers and guests interact so positively because working in the creative sector can be quite isolating. This monthly event offers a perfect opportunity to learn from others in the business in a really informal atmosphere and we’re really looking forward to the next one!"
The next Creative Café, which is free, will be held at the Innovation Centre on Wednesday 20 October from 4pm-6pm when personal development specialist Sue Pike will be drawing on over twenty years' experience to offer advice on successful networking techniques to achieve the best for you and your business.
