Northampton College becomes only college in region to offer specialist qualification
Northampton College is offering two internationally recognised taxation qualifications to meet the emerging demand from small businesses to acquire the knowledge to be able to complete their own accounts.
The college is the only college in the county – and only one of four nationwide – to offer the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification. The two-year part-time course, studied over two evenings a week, is ideal for anyone working with tax, with tax forming a part of their job or for small businesses wanting to increase their understanding of the UK taxation system to assist them with the completion of their returns. The course covers personal and business taxation, business compliance and ethics and places a strong emphasis on self assessment for both individual and corporation tax liabilities.
Debbie Anderson, ATT tutor said: "Much to do with taxation is now assessed online, and with the subject in general having a reputation as being a bit of a minefield, people lack the confidence to do it themselves. Recently, we’ve seen an increase in interest from small businesses and sole traders wanting to complete their own tax returns. With the current emphasis on self assessment, individuals and small businesses are seeking a better understanding of their own tax liabilities. The college is pleased to be able to offer this course to the accountants wanting to specialise in tax in Northamptonshire – before now it’s only been available through private training providers which was incredibly costly."
For those with only an interest in personal tax, or not wanting to commit to a two-year course, there is an alternative. The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 4 module in Personal Taxation is a 12-week course studied over one evening per week. The module covers income tax, NI, PAYE, dividends and payments of tax.
