Local development strengthened through new collaborative working

The Board of North Northants Development Company (NNDC) has confirmed that it has joined the Steering Group established by West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) and Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited (NEL) to identify ways of working together that will save money and deliver the best possible results for the people of Northamptonshire.

The steering group has commissioned officers to review each organisation to identify where further efficiency savings can be made and where work programmes can be combined to deliver better results and outputs. The review will not be considering governance arrangements and the boards of each organisation will remain completely independent. It is expected that an action plan, based on the findings of the review, will be completed by early November.

David Reynolds, chair of NNDC, said: “We are taking every opportunity to work with our partners at WNDC and NEL to make significant cost savings whilst maintaining a high quality service for the local communities we serve. Whilst this process will challenge the way we have previously worked in some ways, it will also build on initiatives such as the Strategic Northamptonshire Economic Action Plan, where successful partnership working has delivered efficiencies.”

Paul Southworth, NEL chairman, commented: “It is imperative that cost savings are made without damaging efficiency. Working together will strengthen existing partnership and ensure that essential skills across our organisations are fully utilised.”

John Markham, chair of WNDC, said: “In the current economic climate the public sector needs to make the most effective use of the resources at its disposal. NNDC’s involvement in this review will help ensure we can generate significant cost savings that will go directly back into the projects that make a difference to the people of Northamptonshire.”
