Jubilation for 2012 in Northampton
A bumper events programme has been put together in Northampton for what promises to be a jubilant year in more ways than one.
Each year Northampton Borough Council and other groups and organisations host a whole range of exciting events around the town, but for 2012 – the Olympic and Jubilee celebration year – the hope is to make Northampton’s events programme better than ever.
As well regular events such as the Northampton Carnival, Bands in the Park and the Christmas celebrations, 2012 will feature an array of Olympic and Jubilee-themed events that include the Olympic Torch Relay, Godiva Awakes parading through the town, screenings of the Olympics on big screens in the town and a Queen’s Jubilee party in one of the town’s premier parks.
In addition there will be fun for all the family as Northampton plays host to a range of animal-themed attractions as well as other sporting and cultural events throughout the summer. The town’s museum will also be pulling out all the stops with a packed programme of shows, exhibitions, story telling, tours, talks and children’s crafts workshops.
Northampton will also be looking more beautiful than ever as plans get underway to brighten the town as it makes its bid for another Gold medal in Britain in Bloom 2012.
Councillor Brandon Eldred, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for community engagement, said: "There’s much to celebrate this year and the events planned in Northampton are a triumph. As an historic county town, Northampton has much to offer and this is a great opportunity for us to bring communities together, enhance the town’s profile and attract more visitors into our town.”
