Driving future business talent: Northampton logistics and business park invests in Young Chamber
Businesses on Brackmills Industrial Estate are supporting young people across the county by investing £1,000 into Northamptonshire Chamber’s Young Chamber programme.
The estate, which became a Business Improvement District (BID) two and a half years ago, is home to over 150 businesses which each pool an annual levy to fund a series of positive changes across the estate and wider community.
John Corrigan, Chairman of the Brackmills Executive Board, explained: “As a group of businesses we are passionate about supporting the development of young people as they progress from school into work. Investing in the Young Chamber programme is one of the ways in which we plan to make a marked difference, to ensure that schoolchildren get the support and attention they need in order to be prepared and equipped for the workforce.
“We greatly look forward to working in partnership with the Chamber. As a group of companies we hope to be able to pass on our skills and knowledge to the workforce of tomorrow.”
Northamptonshire Chamber’s Young Chamber initiative is in its fourth year and works with five Northamptonshire schools – Caroline Chisholm School, Prince William Upper School, Montsaye Community College, The Duston School and The Northampton Academy - to develop enterprise skills in students and prepare the county’s future workforce for the world of work. The programme also works hard to foster links and encourage closer working between businesses and schools.
Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Chamber, added: “Young Chamber has really gathered pace in the last two years and we have been appealing to local businesses for sponsorship to keep this important initiative going.
“We are really excited about this tie up with Brackmills Industrial Estate Limited. Not only will the money go some way to helping us to facilitate Young Chamber activity with the schools, but we also have access to a potential 150 local businesses from a wide range of industry sectors who can give the schools the benefit of their time and real world business experience. This really is great news for Young Chamber and I look forward to seeing how we can all work together.”
