Dachser establishes sea freight branch near Rotterdam
The internationally operating logistics provider, Dachser, now also provides worldwide sea freight services from and to the Netherlands. Together with its joint venture partner, Seacon, Dachser’s Air & Sea Logistics business segment has opened a sea freight office in Waddinxveen near Rotterdam.
The establishment of the new sea freight office now enables Dachser to offer its customers in the Netherlands a single-source logistics package comprising overland, air and sea freight services, coupled with warehousing solutions. Dachser’s European Logistics business segment has been operating out of Waddinxveen since 2007. Dachser will now also handle its customers’ intercontinental sea freight consignments from here. The Waddinxveen facility is located just 25 kilometres from Rotterdam, one of the biggest ports in the world, and offers ample warehousing capacities to also provide supplementary contract logistics solutions.
“Dachser operates a transshipment warehouse in excess of 7,000 square metres in Waddinxveen and has an additional 12,000 square metres of warehouse space,” explains Jan Willem Das, branch manager at Dachser Air & Sea Logistics in Waddinxveen.
Dachser Air & Sea Logistics and the Dutch logistics provider, Seacon, set up the Dachser Netherlands Air & Sea Logistics B.V. joint venture in 2008. Both partners hold a 50% equity share. Initially, the company focused exclusively on intercontinental air freight services.
“To now also be able to offer sea freight services represents a major step in the optimization of our global network structures,” says Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics, adding: “The port of Rotterdam serves as a gateway for trade between Europe and Asia. The US is another important economic partner for the Netherlands.”
In 2009, Dachser generated total revenue of EUR 3.2 billion. 17,500 staff working in 306 profit centres worldwide handled 41.8 million consignments weighing a total of 29.4 million tonnes.
