Careers education conference to take place in Northampton
This year’s annual IAGS Conference - ‘Getting to grips with the national and local changes to careers education, information, advice and guidance’, will be held on Thursday 9 February at the King’s Park Conference Centre in Northampton.
The conference is aimed at Head Teachers, Principals, Careers Co-ordinators and IAGS Champions in schools and colleges, 14-19 Partnership Directors, Training Providers and Connexions staff who support the delivery of careers education, information, advice and guidance.
Guest speaker, David Andrews OBE, independent education consultant and trainer, will lead the conference highlighting the implications of the new Education Act and the changes to statutory responsibilities and services.
David Andrews said: “Young people are facing the biggest change in the provision of careers guidance services for over a decade, as responsibility for securing independent and informed advice and guidance moves from the local authority to schools and academies.
"At a time of rising youth unemployment and major changes to the financial support for students continuing in education and training, it is vital that young people continue to have access to good quality careers guidance. I’m delighted to have been invited to contribute to this conference to help schools and academies consider practical approaches to taking on their new responsibilities.”
There will also be a resources exhibition and an opportunity to network with colleagues from other educational establishments.
Sue Curtis, Team Leader, said: “We have been running this popular conference for many years. It is an excellent opportunity for colleagues to get up-to-date with the radical changes proposed by the Government to the way young people will get information, advice and guidance about their futures. Support for pupils will look very different from April and we will be examining with schools and colleges how this will all work in practice.”
The conference is organised by Connexions Northamptonshire supported by Northamptonshire County Council. For further information contact Sue Curtis on 01604 630033.
