Pride of Northampton comes to life in April

People in Northampton will have the chance to see the Pride of Northampton brought to life as lions and artists come in to Northampton town centre.

On Wednesday 7 April the Pride of Northampton will be setting up a Lion's Den in the Grosvenor Centre in Northampton. Throughout April anyone visiting the Grosvenor Centre will be able to see local artists decorating the Pride of Northampton. For a month shoppers will be able to watch each lion sculpture go from being a blank canvass into a beautifully decorated member of the Pride of Northampton.

To help the artists feel inspired we will also be unveiling four new members of the Pride of Northampton. And, to make the lions feel at home the world famous Kenyan Boy's Choir will be taking a break from their tour to perform.

The Choir perform in traditional tribal costumes and have performed across the world, including at Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony. The 24 piece choir will bring the sights, sounds and energy of their homeland with them.

Councillor Paul Varnsverry, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for culture said: "The Pride of Northampton is an event that looks set to make the summer of 2010 in Northampton a time that will be remembered for many years to come. Visitors are expected to come to our town from far and wide to see the lions and hopefully take in many of the other cultural attractions our historic town has to offer. The Lions' Den provides the first opportunity for everyone to start to savour what the festival is all about and to see local artists bringing the lions to life."
