Northampton in Bloom - East Midlands Regional and National Competition 2010

Northampton in Bloom, a local campaign, which is aimed at improving our environment and making Northampton a better place to live and work, has links to East Midlands and Britain in Bloom and includes a garden competition for residents, businesses and communities to enter.

Northampton enters the East Midlands in Bloom Competition every year. The competition is part of the national Britain in Bloom initiative organised by the Royal Horticultural Society. Judges visit the town and are escorted around a pre-determined route, which takes in Parks, Open Spaces, Residential Areas, Community Projects and the Town Centre.

In 2009 Northampton achieved a Gold Award, City Category Win and was also nominated for the first time to represent the East Midlands in the 2010 National Britain in Bloom Finals.

Judging dates for the competition are as follows:

East Midlands in Bloom Regional Competition: 5 – 16 July 2010.

Britain in Bloom National Finals: 2 - 13 August 2010.

To support Northampton’s entry in 2010 any help from Shops, Retailers and Businesses to enhance their properties with hanging baskets, window boxes and floral displays is encouraged.

Chamber members are invited to a Britain in Bloom workshop which has been arranged for Monday 8 March 2010 in the Court Room at the Guildhall. The workshop will include a demonstration from Amethyst Horticulture Ltd and run from 5:30 - 7:30pm.

If you would like to attend, please confirm your attendance with Julie Thorneycroft jthorneycroft@northampton.gov.uk so that refreshments can be organised.
