Duston School holds Young Chamber Dragon’s Den event
The Duston School in Northampton held a Dragons Den style event under the name ‘Duston Den’ last week.
During the event, the students were given the opportunity to pitch their winning business ideas to a panel from the school’s Young Chamber. Each group had just five minutes to pitch their idea with the hope of receiving funding to get the idea up and running. The Young Chamber representatives were treated to some fabulous presentations, complete with sample products and merchandise. The Young Chamber awarded £570 of funding across five projects. The businesses ranged from a student newspaper to a newly invented soft drink called ‘Tropical Splash’.
Julie Ricketts, Business Education Co-ordinator at The Duston School said: “As a Business and Enterprise, and Science College we are thrilled to see such a strong entrepreneurial spirit running through our students and our Young Chamber will be supporting the new businesses to help them develop. We have been stunned by the number of students that have wanted to take part and as this event has been so successful we hope to run another ‘Den’ in the near future.”
The core focus of the Young Chamber, which is run in association with Northamptonshire Chamber, is to help young people to develop their own potential by understanding how business and commerce works, which fully supports the ethos of one the schools specialism of Business and Enterprise.Posted by: The Duston School
