College fashion show a success

One hundred and twenty local ladies were treated to a fashion show organised by Northampton College business students as a part of their course.

£1600 was raised at the event which took place at Sedgebrook Hall in Chapel Brampton on Thursday 1 April. Fashion from well known high street stores including Marks & Spencer, Principles and Next was showcased on the catwalk, after which guests had the opportunity to buy the clothing at discount prices. Barclaycard kindly matched money raised from ticket sales and that money, together with raffle proceeds, will now be donated to Breast Cancer Care – a charity chosen by the BTEC National Diploma Business students.

Fiona Price, 18 from Long Buckby was one of the students responsible for organising the event. She said: "I am so pleased we have raised so much money for a charity the whole class feels so strongly about. The assignment has been a huge challenge, but we have pulled together as a team, especially on the night when everything becomes a bit rushed. The evening was a lot of fun and we all feel very proud of our efforts."

Lecturer Andrea Brown said: "It’s been a massive accomplishment for the students and it’s been great to see their efforts end so successfully. Their hard work has really paid off – we’d sold all the tickets two weeks before the show! Event management is an essential part of their course as it teaches them budgeting, marketing, negotiation and customer service skills. This is the first time they have organised something on this scale and that it’s raised so much money for such a fantastic charity is even more impressive."
