Goodwill Solutions, which supplies furniture to charities and individuals in need, walked away with the ‘Social Enterprise of the Year Award’ at the recent Startups Awards 2009.
Founded by Mike Britton, who was previously Stock Clearance Manager for the MFI group, Goodwill Solutions has been supported by CAN, an alcohol, drugs and homelessness charity in Northampton, since its inception, and CAN is delighted for the company. Other supporters of the enterprise have been The University of Northampton and UnLtd.
Goodwill Solutions sources obsolete and returned products that would otherwise be sent to landfill and then reworks and repairs them for resale. The company’s objectives include providing employment opportunities for the long-term unemployed, disabled people and ex- offenders, and has prevented 120 tonnes of product going to landfill in the past year alone.
Mike Britton said: “I am delighted to win this award, it’s really unexpected and I would like to thank the judges for endorsing the work we do. It’s nice to be recognised for our efforts.”
