Brixworth Carnival celebrates with help from PC Howard
Concentrating on matters closer to home for a change, national and European distribution firm PC Howard played a major part in last month's Brixworth Carnival.
The Brixworth depot of the haulage company that also has warehouse and distribution facilities in Kings Cliffe and Corby is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and business development manager Bruce Macmillan believes getting involved in such an important community event was the best way to celebrate.
Originally set up to handle the group's Palletways operation - a cost effective distribution service for small quantities of pallets using a network of owner managed businesses - the Brixworth depot has seen a year-on-year increase throughout the past five years and has grown to encompass the entire PC Howard offering of national distribution service and warehouse storage space.
"PC Howard is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary. We have been in Brixworth for five years and we couldn't think of a better way to mark that than to do something that benefited the community," said Bruce Macmillan, "We were asked to supply a vehicle for one of the floats and ended up using five, with a whole range of community groups using them in the parade. It was a great success and meant we could put a little something back."
PC Howard's deputy operations manager at the Northampton site Stuart Williams, himself a Brixworth resident, coordinated the firm's carnival involvement, including arranging the loan of scaffolding for the floats and organising the drivers - Chris Fellowes, Simon Cowlingshaw, Michael Rye, Mick Crookes and Dan Batsford.
"A lot of work went into it, but it was worth it. The drivers were very generous and gave their time free of charge and hopefully we helped the carnival to be a success," said Stuart, "We have been told that around 3,000 people turned out to watch the parade, which is wonderful for a relatively small village."
PC Howard operates 100 vehicles and 130 trailers along with 300,000 square feet of warehouse space, offering next-day deliveries and a full track and trace facility as well as storage and a pick and pack service where required.
“Having started off simply as the Palletways sector of the business, it is gratifying to know that business has grown to the extent that the Brixworth depot now forms an important part of the PC Howard service, and provides customers with the complete range of services,” said Bruce Macmillan, “In addition, membership of Palletways enables us to keep costs down for customers who have smaller consignments, whether that’s in the UK or Europe. The service we offer is a complete solution to any business’s distribution and storage needs, whatever its size.”
