Another borough council employee rewarded for keeping it green

Jason Chambers, who works in Facilities Management at Northampton Borough Council's Cliftonville House, is to be awarded a prize for encouraging colleagues to think green and therefore becoming the authority's thirteenth eco-champion.

The council is fully committed to reducing its carbon footprint and decrease the amount of money spent on energy and fuel. The council recently signed up to the 10:10 initiative, which aims to encourage businesses and residents to save energy too.

Jason was nominated for his dedication to improve the way the council runs its buildings and offices in a more efficient way. He switches off monitors and thinks about how the council recycles as a business. He also recycles office furniture and as a keen nature enthusiast is keen to encourage wildlife into the garden at Cliftonville House. He uses his bike in all weathers to attend meetings and encourages others to think about what they buy in supermarkets, and what impact the product may have on carbon emissions. Jason is a strong advocator of buying locally sourced, organic products as much as possible too.

Cllr Trini Crake and John Clarke from the Daily Bread Co-operative Ltd, sponsor of the award scheme, will present Jason with a certificate and a Daily Bread goody bag on Thursday, 1 July.

Cllr Trini Crake, cabinet member for environment, said "Every time we open the nominations to find another eco-champion I am taken aback by how much some borough council employees do. It makes me very proud and I am delighted to be able to thank Jason for his commitment. Jason really takes the lead on green issues and always goes out of his way to encourage his colleagues to be more aware and change their habits where possible."
