Christmas cards launched by YMCA
December 9th, 2009
Item submitted by: Northamptonshire YMCANorthamptonshire YMCA has launched its own Christmas Cards this year, with a pack of six costing just £1.00.
The Cards have been designed by the young people who access Northamptonshire YMCA’s Mobile Youth Bus Project and the Kettering Play Rangers Project.
The Mobile Youth Bus project is based in a converted bus and reaches out to the most disadvantaged wards in Northampton. This operates five evenings and two afternoons a week in seven locations, working with children aged 8 to 13.
Each session attracts an average of 25 participants, which demonstrates the strong demand for the project. The bus provides a welcoming and safe environment, where children can get information, keep warm and dry, play games, meet and chat with friends, get a hot drink or a free snack and build positive relationships.
Working in two teams, the Kettering Play Rangers operate six evenings and five afternoons a week, in 11 locations, working with young people aged 10-16.
The team is based in urban areas using a variety of activities to: promote play in parks/open spaces, promote interaction and awareness of the natural environment, develop new skills and have fun. The Team works to enable the young people to make their own choices and support them to become valued members of their community. Areas of work include Pleasure Park, Mill Road, Charlotte Place, North Park and Spring Rise.
The rural areas team works in Desborough, Rothwell, Wilbarston, Broughton and Barton Seagrave & Burton Latimer, in a new double-decker bus. This provides a warm and safe environment where young people can get information or just meet and chat with friends.
Some of the activities available include football, cricket, face painting, aquabeads, Xbox 360 and Krypton Factor.
